@Cassie, I haven’t tried the closet approach, but I have seen that in magazines. If you give it a shot, let us know how it works out for you.
And, think about this, perhaps by the time you “lose” your home office space, you’ll so busy that you might want to have an office outside your home.

At home our office is shared between my husband and me, but one day when our girls get their own rooms we’ll lose office space. That will be a sad day! Ideally we’ll have added an addition by then, making room for a dining room w/ space for a desk, but who knows?

Otherwise, I have a traveling office…I pack up my laptop and meet clients at the local coffeehouse, or head out to get some uninterrupted work done when possible.

I’ve seen magazines showing how to turn closet space into an office just big enough to house a desk and maybe a file cabinet. Anyone ever tried that?

Thanks @Nancy. Do you have a separate, sacred space set up in your home? Tell us what it’s like.
@Hele, having a loft helps a lot. LOL about your cats. I know a few people who consider those feline friends their business “associates”. Did you read the post about people taking you seriously when you work from home? It might be helpful with regard to your son. Thanks for sharing. ~Debra

my office is in my bedroom – proud owner of a loft bed so the floor is all for the office.
but getting the workspace respected took me about 6 years. now my son is knocking at the open door when he needs me … now we have to work that the cats will show similar respect! (am i dreaming?)

Wonderful idea for folks with not much room. Anything can become a sacred space, be respected in that space, and used for a purpose
